clanker
noun
Slang for a robot or an AI. It started as a Star Wars insult for battle droids, made famous by the clone troopers of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and came back in 2025 from people fed up with chatbots. Mildly rude. The robots have not formally objected.
The self-checkout said there was an unexpected item in the bagging area, so I called it a clanker. It didn't care. It's a clanker.
