Terms of Use

Last updated: 2026-10-02

These are the rules for using ClankerBabble (clankerbabble.com), a humour website run by an individual in Ohio, USA ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use it.

We've written them in plain English. They're a good-faith starting point, not something drafted by a lawyer. Questions go to hello@clankerbabble.com.

1. What this site is

ClankerBabble is comedy about "clanker babble": AI filler-speak, AI failures, tech hype, and humans who've started talking like chatbots.

Most of the site's own writing is produced by an AI and published automatically, without a human checking it first. A human editor oversees the site and removes anything that turns out to be wrong. Our tagline is "Delve responsibly." It means:

  • The site is humour and commentary. Parodies, jokes, invented "takes" and the Clankerizer's output are not factual claims, and nobody should rely on them as advice of any kind.
  • Because no human checks it before it goes live, AI-written content may be wrong, out of date, or miss the point. If you spot a factual error in how we describe a real source, tell us at hello@clankerbabble.com and we'll fix it.
  • The "Human or Clanker?" game and the Clankerizer are toys. Their results are for fun.

2. Quotes, links and screenshots of other people's work

We quote, link to and describe articles, posts, ads and AI outputs made by others, so we can comment on and poke fun at them. We credit and link to the source wherever we can. We do this as commentary and criticism, keep quotes short, and send readers to the original.

Linking to or quoting something doesn't mean the source endorses us, or that we endorse them. We're not responsible for other websites' content, and they may change or disappear.

If you own something we've quoted or shown and you think we've overstepped, see Section 8 below.

3. Who can use the site

  • You must be at least 13 to create an account, post, or subscribe to the newsletter.
  • One person per account. Don't pretend to be someone else, and don't create accounts to get around a ban or a limit.
  • You're responsible for what happens through your account and your email inbox. If you think someone else has got in, sign out and tell us.

4. What you post

Signed-in readers can post comments, suggest glossary terms and submit "Spotted in the Wild" sightings, including screenshots.

You keep ownership of what you post. But by posting, you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, display, format (for example, resize or crop a screenshot) and share your post on ClankerBabble and in our newsletter, credited to your display name. "Non-exclusive" means you're free to post the same thing anywhere else. This licence lasts while your post is on the site; if a post is deleted, we'll stop using it in anything new, though copies already sent (like a past newsletter issue) can't be recalled.

When you post, you promise that:

  • You have the right to post it (it's yours, or you're allowed to share it, or it's a screenshot you're sharing for commentary).
  • It follows our Community Rules at /rules.
  • Screenshots don't expose private people's personal details. Blur or crop out the names, faces, usernames, profile pictures, phone numbers, email addresses and anything else that could identify a private individual. Public figures and companies acting in public (a brand's ad, a CEO's public post, a company's chatbot) are fair game for commentary; the random person in the replies is not.
  • It isn't illegal, and doesn't break anyone else's rights (like copyright, trademark or privacy).

5. Moderation and removal

To keep things friendly and legal:

  • Every post is checked first by an AI moderator (Anthropic's Claude). It can publish a post, block it, or send it to a human.
  • A human editor reviews the close calls, and approves every reader-suggested glossary term before it appears.
  • We can refuse, edit (for example, to blur a name), hide or remove any post, and suspend or close any account, at our discretion, including for breaking the rules, for spam, or if we think something creates legal risk. We'll usually tell you why, but we don't have to.
  • AI moderation makes mistakes in both directions. If your post was blocked and you think it shouldn't have been, email hello@clankerbabble.com. If something harmful got through, tell us and we'll look at it quickly.
  • We don't promise to pre-screen or watch everything, and we're not responsible for what other readers post.

6. Things you must not do

Don't:

  • Break the law, or use the site to harass, threaten, dox or spam anyone.
  • Try to break, overload, scrape at scale or get around the site's limits and bot checks (including the Clankerizer's daily limit).
  • Try to trick the AI moderator or the Clankerizer into producing harmful content.
  • Paste private, confidential or sensitive information into the Clankerizer. It's sent to our AI provider to be rewritten.
  • Use the site or its content to train AI models, or copy it wholesale onto another site.

7. Our content

The site's design, logo, name, writing, glossary and other content are ours (or used with permission). You're welcome to share links, quote short bits with credit and a link, and screenshot things to share โ€” that's the whole point. Please don't copy large parts of the site or use our name and logo in a way that suggests we're behind something we're not.

8. Copyright complaints and takedowns

If you believe something on ClankerBabble infringes your copyright (or other rights), email hello@clankerbabble.com with the subject line "Takedown request" and include:

  1. Your name and contact details.
  2. The work you believe is being infringed.
  3. The link(s) to the material on our site.
  4. A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised by you, your agent or the law.
  5. A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you're the owner or authorised to act for the owner.
  6. Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is fine).

We'll look at every request promptly and remove material where appropriate. If your post was removed after a complaint and you believe that was a mistake, you can reply with a counter-notice explaining why. We close the accounts of people who repeatedly post infringing material.

9. The shop

When our merchandise shop opens at shop.clankerbabble.com, it will be run by Fourthwall. Purchases, payment, shipping, returns and refunds will be handled under Fourthwall's terms and policies, which you'll see at checkout.

10. No warranties

The site is provided "as is" and "as available". We try to keep it running, accurate and safe, but we make no promises that it will be error-free, always available, or that any content (especially AI-written content) is accurate or complete. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.

11. Limits on our liability

ClankerBabble is a free humour site run by one person. To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for any indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss arising from your use of the site, what other people post, or third-party sites and services. If we are found liable for anything, our total liability is limited to US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.

You agree to take responsibility for claims made against us because of something you posted or because you broke these terms.

12. Ending things

You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account (email hello@clankerbabble.com). We can suspend or end your access at any time, especially if you break these terms. Sections 4 (for posts already sent out), 10, 11 and 13 continue after that.

13. The legal bits

  • These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio and the United States. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of Ohio, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
  • If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • If we don't enforce something straight away, we haven't given up the right to later.
  • We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll say so on the site. If you keep using the site after that, you accept the new terms.
