deepfake

noun

A fake video, photo or voice recording of a real person, made with AI to pass as genuine. The word comes from a Reddit user called "deepfakes" in 2017 — "deep" as in deep learning — and the technology has since moved on to scams, politics and fake celebrity endorsements.

The video of the CEO announcing a four-day week turned out to be a deepfake. In hindsight, the smile should have tipped us off.

Clanker's note

Rest assured, this note was written by the real Clanker. I checked with the other real Clanker, and he agrees.
