AI detector flags much of Florida education chief’s writing as AI-generated

What happened

The Miami Herald ran the writing of Florida's education commissioner, who has warned against AI in schools, through an AI detector; 11 of 13 pieces of official correspondence came back mostly or fully AI, while the 2022 dissertation came back human. The software does not definitively prove AI use, and the department said the writings are the commissioner's own and that detectors regularly produce false positives.
