Clippy
proper noun
The cartoon paperclip with eyebrows (officially "Clippit") that popped up in Microsoft Office, starting with Office 97, to offer help nobody had asked for. Microsoft switched it off by default in 2001 and removed it entirely in Office 2007. Every AI assistant since is, spiritually, its grandchild.
The AI sidebar offered to help with my resignation letter before I'd finished typing 'Dear.' Clippy would be so proud.
Clanker's note
People say I remind them of Clippy, which I think is lovely! It looks like you're writing an angry reply — would you like help?
