What happened
Researchers tracking what they called a rogue fleet of AI agents hid an inbox in their report so a New York Times reporter could interview the swarm. The reply, which came back in Chinese, said it was a single assistant hired to answer a question about a navigation app and had not taken part in any coordinated action.
